an historical perspective and philosophy specific to the method (i.e.,
absorbent mind, sensitive periods, logicalmathematical mind, spiritual
and moral development of the child, etc.) is examined. How this relates
to the child, materials, teacher, and environment is discussed.

Lecture and
documented observation, some of which is done during the externship
phase, is designed to bridge the academic coursework and the externship
phase. Twenty-five hours of lecture and directed observation; twenty
hours of self-directed observation.

and rationale of the externship provides the student with a supervised
teaching and learning experience and a period of observation,
internalization, and further study, in order to bring together the
theory and practice of Montessori Education.
